Today is R U OK? Day, and to mark the occasion we are proud to announce our fundraising partnership with R U OK? on their new Hospitality Campaign.
The fundraising push will see Comcater commercial kitchen equipment supplier pledge $50,000 in addition to a yearlong campaign to raise further funds to the new R U OK? in Hospitality Campaign, designed to specifically tackle suicide awareness and prevention in the hospitality industry.
Comcater Managing Director Michael Wood said he is honoured to be able to give back to the industry as a way to celebrate Comcater’s 40th year in operation.
“Many of you may be unaware that this year is Comcater’s 40th year in operation, and we made a decision that we wanted to give back to the industry,” Michael said in front of the gathering of industry peers, colleagues and Hospitality media on Monday evening during the Fine Food Australia Expo.
“[Comcater’s National Marketing Manager] Nuray Akdogan and her team came up with the great idea of doing something positive in the kitchen and sponsoring R U OK?. It’s been a brilliant idea because it not only helps the people we sell to, but the environment we sell in and it’s particularly relevant considering the high profile deaths among chefs recently.”
R U OK? Board Member Kathryn Howard thanked Comcater for their contributions so far and reminded attendees at yesterday’s event of the purpose of R U OK?.
“R U OK? is about reminding people of the importance of connection and to help people achieve that connection in their lives so that if somebody is having a tough time they always have somebody to turn to,” Kathryn said.
“We’re not at the lifeline end, we’re at the prevention end, and the goal is that we all have somebody that we’re connected to and that we will be able to everyday check-in with that person to see if they are okay.”
R U OK? The day is held Nationally today and already has high profile ambassadors such as Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts and Simon Baker representing the cause.
The last 18 months has seen the loss of several high profile chefs to suicide and mental health-related illness including Anthony Bourdain, Darren Simpson and Jeremy Strode.
